One of the most common questions we get from clients doing a bathroom remodel is, “What material is best for bathroom vanity tops?”  The answer is usually that it depends on budget and style.  But, with that said, a stone vanity top would be the first recommendation, and here is why.

A bathroom vanity top must not only be stylish, it must also be durable enough to stand up to water, soap, hot curling irons, make-up, and everything else that gets dropped on it during the morning rush.  That makes sealed Granite, Quartz, and Marble excellent choices.

Granite

Granite is best known as a popular kitchen countertop, but granite is also the first choice by most for bathroom countertops because of its hardness. Granite countertops are durable, scratch resistant, and can hold up to most any abuse. Plus, it is loved for its nearly limitless variety of colors, patterns, and styles that can significantly increase the resale value of your home.

Quartz

Quartz is often overlooked as a vanity countertop option but should be a top consideration because of its durability.  Quartz is naturally waterproof and resists stains and bacteria.  Most quartz has a clean, contemporary look and is available in a remarkable variety of colors and patterns.  If you are going for a modern look, a quartz vanity top might just be the answer.

Marble

Marble is arguably the most beautiful natural stone used for kitchen and bathroom countertops, period.  It is available in an almost infinite variety of colors and patterns and offers an unmatched elegance compared to other countertop materials.  It pays to install marble, especially in a master bath, where it will attract buyers at resale and give the vanity top a rich, luxurious look.  One caveat; marble is a relatively soft, porous stone that needs to be sealed every year or two, but its classic beauty is worth the investment of time.
